# Burning Pink London Mayoral Manifesto 2021

For the first time since I moved here from Ghana in the '60s to the slum areas of Ladbroke Grove, there is a new mood in London. A new consciousness in the world. For the first time we are becoming aware that time is running out for our species. How did we get here? Have we been thinking too small? How do we think big? How do we save the world that our children will inherit?

Only a revolution will save us from ecological and social collapse that the corporate class is driving us towards. And it's going to start right here in London. It's my intention to take power and give that power to the ordinary people through citizens assemblies: randomly selected people from our city who come together to make legally binding decisions on how to run transport, policing, health and education. If we are successful, we may see citizens assemblies nationally working to reduce carbon emissions to zero within five years and thus save the world from the worst of the ecological collapse which is now locked in. We need to establish the glorious principle of rule by the people for the people, though revolutionary constitutional change, that for the first time in history will put citizens into power – through chance rather than through the gate keeping of the elites.

This isn't a dreamy idealistic or ego driven project - at the core of Burning Pink's mission is the notion of service to the greater good and the idea that truth is central to political integrity. Our first value is to speak and live in truth, rather than to be successful. And funnily enough, when we live in truth, the more we will stand out from our corrupted opponents and experience success.

Burning Pink is for the people by the people – not just for the urban professional classes, as has been the case for decades for political parties and movements. We explicitly welcome ordinary people. We enjoy our mistakes and learn from them and we're cheerful in the face of evil.

We hate politics – the out of control egos, the corruption, the lack of grace, humility, and humour. If the language of politicians can't be understood by the average 11 year old, it's not fit for purpose. We use down to earth language. We are anti political – or more precisely, we will bring the messy glory of humanness and sociability into politics.

Let's take our courage in both hands and start the hard work. Nothing is achieved without a solid work ethic and masses of hard grind. This is not a phase, or a project, or a game. We are in an absolute crisis and it's time to jump to it. I'm a mother, a grandmother, an activist and a vigilante. My experiences mean I know about life and can get the job done. I will pull up my sleeves, inspire and lead, not from the front, but by working alongside you all.

Yours with love,

Valerie x
