# Respect Party London Mayoral Manifesto 2016

# GALLOWAY FOR MAYOR

straight talking, straight forward

London's a great city, but life's not great for all Londoners. The elite thrive whilst the majority struggle with high living costs, housing shortages, cramped, expensive transport and savage cuts to public services.

If I'm Mayor, I will stand with working people, tenants and those struggling with a mortgage. I will fight for you, whatever your background.

We will oppose all racism, Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and support unity amongst all Londoners.

I will work with Jeremy Corbyn to fight against and dismantle David Cameron's austerity and tax-dodging government.

With me, you know I say what I mean and I mean what I say.

With Respect,

George Galloway

## IF I'M MAYOR...

1. Free transport pass for students and key workers
2. Banning heavy vehicles during daylight hours from Central London to save lives, limbs and lungs
3. A huge increase in affordable houses built and a halt to London property being used as a safety deposit boxes by rich, often crooked, foreign buyers
4. Demanding London control over the NHS to stop further cuts and privatisation
5. A strong and well-funded police force that 'looks like London'. No more institutionalised racism or class distinction

London is a world capital and needs a big figure to lead it.

Say what you like about Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson; nobody could accuse either of being boring. In an era of robotic politicians, they stood out. And so do I.

# "A SCOTSMAN WITH THE GIFTS OF GAB AND JAB."

As his appearance before the Senate showed, Mr. Galloway is as pugnacious as ever, and as certain as ever that he is being proved right every step of the way (...) who now doubts what we said about the war in Iraq? "

### LIZETTE ALVAREZ

The New York Times (2 July 2005)

# GEORGE GALLOWAY:
THE PEOPLE'S MAYOR

## "One of the finest socialists, internationalists and democrats of his generation."

## RT HON TONY BENN

The best Prime Minister Britain never had in 'I'm Not the Only One' (2004)

I'm the best candidate to lead the defence of Londoners against terrorism, because I know how we got here; I warned of this danger since the run up to the Iraq War.

I will be tough on terrorism and tough on the causes of terrorism.

## Background
Born into a working class Irish/Scottish family who were active in the Labour Party and trade unions, George himself joined the party when he was 13. He was educated at the 'University of Life' and was the youngest ever Chairman of the Labour Party in Scotland at age 26. George was elected six times, including in London, and was an MP for nearly 30 years.

Nels Abbey of The Voice dubbed George as "Britain's Finest Black Politician" in 2012 and he was commended by Stonewall for his support in parliament for equality in 1994 long before it won the day. George won Pakistan's two highest civil awards in the 1980s and 90s.

He's the most experienced politician running for Mayor - more than Labour's Sadiq Khan and Conservative's Zac Goldsmith combined.

IF I'M MAYOR, LONDON
WILL DECLARE PEACE
ON THE WORLD

X No to war
X No more arms fairs in London
X No to invasion, occupation
and injustice
