# Liberal Democrats London Mayoral Manifesto 2008

## The Experience to Deliver
brianpaddick4london.net

*Dear Friend*

*I have a vision for our capital - I want to create a London where people are proud to be Londoners, feel London is _their_ city and want to take responsibility for making it a better place to live.*

Brian Paddick

Former Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Met and Lib Dem supporter Brian Paddick believes his experience can play a key role in running London

## Manifesto
### 1 Safer Communities
Safer communities are number one on everybody’s agenda, and Brian knows more than Boris and Ken about the issue of law and order.
“I will put more police officers, fully trained, equipped and with the necessary powers out on the street, dealing with violent gun and knife crime.”

### 2 Intelligent Transport
London does not have a transport system that befits its global reputation.
“I want to make that old joke about waiting for a bus redundant.”
“I plan a major overhaul of the congestion charge to target the chief executive in his chauffeur-driven car instead of the delivery driver who keeps the capital supplied.”
“I will use the best technology available to improve the reliability of buses and cut congestion and pollution.”

### 3 A Greener Capital
London has the potential to be a world-leader in tackling climate change and minimising our impact on the environment.
“I will lead by example by powering the Tube with renewable energy and act as a catalyst to spread environmental best practice across London.”

### 4 Better for Business
The Mayor should create a buoyant business environment in which London’s diverse range of businesses can thrive and compete.
“I will help provide the right environment for business but will not interfere in their business.”

In November 2003, Brian became **Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police** and in April 2005 **took over the day-to-day running of Territorial Policing in all 32 London Boroughs together with the responsibility for 20,000 police officers and support staff.**

Known for his hands-on approach to policing, Brian is keen to bring the community touch to London politics. Recently, Brian has been out and about in London lending a helping hand in crucial by-elections.

Brian says: “The Party is in a unique position. Voters who want substance and delivery are turning to us. We must seize the opportunity & fight for the issues that really matter to Londoners.”

## Highly Motivated

Brian has a broad range of ideas to meet the needs of Londoners, including putting in place measures to make our communities safer.

In addition, by relying on the best technology, Brian wants to cut congestion and pollution. “We need to put in place a transport infrastructure that is worthy of this great city, but respects the environment every step of the way,” says Brian.

Brian wants London to take a lead on green issues. His emphasis will be on what is reasonable and practical for people to do. Sustainability will be at the heart of every decision he makes.
